Abstract

|
transforming growth factor-¥âs(TGF-¥âs) are highly conserveative family of 25 KD, homodimeric peptides. Among TGF-¥âs TGF-¥â1 is a prototype that has a broad range of biological activities including stimulation or inhibition of cellular
proliferation
and differentiation depending on target cell type and experimental conditions. Although sensitive bioassays for TGF-¥â1 have been described, their interference by other growth modulators have limited their application. Recently, the sandwich
enzymelined
immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were developed for the detection of TGF-¥â1 in complex biological fluids. However, the preiusly developed ELISAs are based on use of a polyclonal rabbit anti-TGF-¥â1 which was limited by the availability of this
rather
low-titer antibody. This report describes a further improved TGF-¥â1 ELISA with comparable sevsitivities and specificities to the assays reported until the present time. This refined ELISA is the most sensitive, reproducible, and time-saving
method
for
the quantitation of TGF-¥â1.
